While working at EDGE Architecture, Joseph Vigil was involved in all phases of this ground-breaking project. The building showcases many sustainable and recycled features. Items such as recycled plastic sheeting were used everywhere from public benches to bathroom partitions. Other products such as wheat sheet and recycled carpet are prevalent throughout the center.
The design of the BCRC facility demonstrates the use passive solar energy in which architectural features allow the building to store the sun's energy during the cold winter months, thus reducing the need for heating. The center also makes extensive use of daylighting to reduce the need for electric-powered lighting and uses natural ventilation for cooling.
The facility is available for public tours and school groups routinely visit the displays and learn about he positive environmental effects of recycling.
